FinTech Delegation to Malta – June 3 -7, 2019

A first of its kind Israeli business delegation visited Malta during the first week of June 2019. The main focus of the delegation was on Fintech and it was organized by City TLV and the Israel-Malta Chamber of Commerce.

Their host were the FinanceMalta Group, Kenneth Faruggia – Chairman, Ivan Grech – CEO.

The group held a series of top level meetings in Malta, including with:

  • Carmelo Abela, Minister of Foreign Relations and International Trade
  • Prof. Edward Scicluna, Minister of Finance
  • Silvio Schembri, Parliamentary Secretary, Office of the Prime Minister
  • David Xuereb, President of the Malta Chamber of Commerce *
  • Joseph Caruana, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Finance
  • Anton Buttigieg, Chief Executive Officer, Tarde Malta
  • Joseph Portelli, Chairman, Malta Stock Exchange
  • Christopher Buttigieg, Chief Officer, Malta Financial Services Authority
  • Joshua Ellul, Chairman, Malta Digital Innovation & Prof. Gordon Pace
  • Natalie Farrugia, Chief Officer – Investment Promotion, Malta Enterprise

Members of the delegation also met privately with leaders in the private sector, including Ganado Advocates, KPMG, Demajo Group and BDO, as well as Professors from the University of Malta.

The program included a visit to the Valetta Headquarters of Credorax, the largest Israeli Fintech company in Malta with over 100 employees.

On the last day of the visit the delegation attended the 12th annual FinanceMalta conference, with hundreds of financial executives from Malta and all over Europe. The keynote speaker was the Prime Minister of Malta, the Hon. Dr. Joseph Muscat.

Various business opportunities have been discussed during the meetings, the main theme of them being connections between Malta’s advanced financial ecosystem and Israel’s leadership as a global technological hub.
